Next week, Dan is going to create a mix that’s full of origin stories. Lots of singers, groups and songwriters have created their own mythology in their persona(s), performances and music, and Dan’s mix will explore some of those mythologies thoroughly. A neat idea for a mix, if I do say so myself.

This Week: A Mix For August

This week, Josh Kopin is going to preparing a mix of songs he likes. That might not sound terribly unique, really (who creates a mix of songs they don’t like?) but what makes this particular mix interesting is that it’s going to be about August. To quote Josh’s intro, “what I’ve cooked up is a mix for August, an August in which I’ve joined the work force, an August that has the collective weight of all the previous Augusts guiding it”

Josh wrote about The National on One Week // One Band not too long ago and you can check out that wonderful coverage with the link up above. You should also do yourself a favor and check out Josh’s tumblr and his webpage on comics.

Next week, my good friend Lydia is crafting a mix that celebrates Independence Day through a very personal lens. Lydia was originally born in Tennessee, but has moved to different parts of the country, and her mix will be autobiographical while centering on the different parts of the United States that she’s lived in. 

Lydia works for Wisdom Publications, a local Buddhist book publishing company. She also has a Tumblr that chronicles the adventures of the Sunday Afternoon Bourbon Society (of which I’m a proud member), which sounds really fancy and intimidating but is really just a group of random friends that get together every month and a half for a bourbon tasting. Knowing Lydia, I guarantee that her mix will be worth a listen and a read.

Next up is another exciting mix, and I’m mostly excited because it focuses on some under-the-radar bands from my beloved adopted hometown, Boston, Massachusetts. Our guide will be Chelsea, who  recently wrote about local heroes O Positive for One Week // One Band (I strongly recommend you give that a read, its good stuff). Chelsea has a Tumblr about her days as a school reporter, which you can find here. She’s also reading the entire works of Paul Auster and blogging about that over the summer. It’s a really cool idea, and you can find the link to Summer Of Auster right here.

Hi, folks. This blog has been running for just a little over a month, and we already have a healthy amount of followers and plenty of wonderful contributors signing up to make great mixes. Thank you! If your’e following, I really appreciate it. If you’ve submitted a mix, or plan to, thanks so much for that as well. I’m so pleased this whole thing seems to be working out. I especially like how each mix and the writing connected with it reveals something about the mix-maker’s unique personality. That’s the idea!

Finally able to step away from taking these mixes. It was fun but I’m glad to have some other people do the leg work, since that’s the point of this blog.
